OneADay [037] - Rage

Today Full Sail had Final Presentations as well as a talk from id and Bethesda about breaking into the game industry. Each of the final games were awesome in their own regard. I really loved the season changing in Four Season Sprint. After finals we started the link for the id/Bethesda meeting (which started 6 hours later). With in 10 minutes the line stretched all the way to the door! So glad to be there early. After that I ended up talking to one of the HR's from id. Today was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!

OneADay [036] - Sony

3D : Getting a little cocky there are we Sony? PS3 wasn't the only factor in the success of BluRay (Porn anyone?). Only 20 games by March 2011? How can you promote 3D and make be buy a TV for only 20 games?

Killzone 3 : Without the 3D the game could run faster or push more poly's. The game tho looks very beautiful, even with the huge"pre alpha code" logo at the top. The jet packs look pretty cool but it seems like every game now needs to have one, just like every game needed multiplayer after Doom did it. Some texture pop ins and some chugging but the game is running very smoothly. The jet pack tho takes up a large section of the screen, the guns too. The destructibles look awesome though, there is a lot of stuff going on. (word of the day - "Epic" count 1). 3D and Move? Optional I hope.

GT5 : 3D? Ok I'll bite. (No gameplay or release date yet >=/ )

Mortal Kombat : Please talk about this! Please Please Please!

MotorStorm and EyePet are looking pretty good. As well as tumble. As for Crysis 2 they are going to have to try hard for a good story and not just pretty game. MORTAL KOMBAT FATALITY! I want that game so badly, curse you Ed Boon and NetherRealm Games.

Playstation Move : Looks exactly like the Wii but it is 1 to 1. That could make it better but that wont make the games good. I like the Move's Nike swoosh logo KevinB! The buttons on the Move look rather small, I wonder how hard that will be to use or if I go to hit Triangle and I hit X as well.

Sorcery : Nice gameplay there =).  Looks like a Harry Potters dream game. (Calling that game now, we will see it next year). The potion bit was pretty cool, I will give them that. The character changing is also something cool, ok I am sorry for making fun of you, I like it. The fire isn't looking too "hot" there (sorry readers, I really am).

Tiger Woods : *Wife/Golf joke* Now that thats out of the way. For a casual game this will be very nice. Something my Dad might like. Looks like there is some lag in the control for this game between the player and the game. Overall looks like it be fun to play for a bit. The grass textures look horrible, its the PS3 EA, not the Gameboy.

Heroes on the Move : Nice little mash up there. Very short =(

KEVIN B!!!!!!!! (Epic, thats 2). Best part so far, He is slowly turning to the face of not only PS3 but Sony and Gaming in general.

Move Dates : Sept 19th! Showing some Europe love on the 15th!, $50 and $30 for the whole Move? The $100 bundle looks nice.  (Epic in writing, thats 3).

PSP : New KevinB for the PSP. I liked how shitty the game was Photoshoped onto that PSP.

God of War [PSP] : So short! Why tease us!

Kingdom Hearts [PSP] : W00t!

PSN : The Tester 2 XD, well at least it is free to watch. Love all the content they have but Home needs a lot more work. HOLY SHIT That E3 Home thing is awesome.....I know what I am doing tonight.

Play.Create.Share Little Big Planet 2 : Game of the Year.  Looks amazing!

PSN Plus : Options for more PSN! Exclusive content, betas, early demos, themes and minis, discounts on PSN, automatic downloads. Sounds good! and 3 months free!

Medal of Honor : We already have Call of Duty...EA. I know you are made IW left you guys to make CoD instead but your just copying them now. This is Modern Warfare 2, poly for poly...... Plagiarism

DEAD SPACE 2 : OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG *FanBoy wet dream* I WANT THIS RIGHT NOW!

PORTAL 2 : HOLY SHIT! PS3 you are doing it so right right now! Steam integration and Trailer!!!!!

Final Fantasy 14 : Wow, the game looks stunning! No gameplay yet =(

Assassins Creed : Multiplayer on PS3? Not going to lie, game is looking pretty good atm. Even though I am not a fan of the AC games so far, this makes me want to try it some more.

Gameplay Footage : Dead Space 2 in shooters? Survival Horror is more the idea I had. Whoever makes these videos for Sony has really made me pumped for games I didn't even want to play. GT5 footage, no RD still!

GT5 : FINALLY! This game looks so beautiful. Best looking game around. It is hard to believe this is all being rendered real time! It all looks like stock footage of cars driving! NOV 2nd!

Infamous 2 : Looking good!

TWISTED METAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMFG! Sony you make me cry tears of joy! It looks so beautiful and the levels are huge. I am getting this! No question.

PS3, you were so strong this year! Amazing!

OneADay [035] - E3 Wii

Zelda : It looks ok, Twilight Princess looks better to me. Also they need to get better people to play the games when they demo them. As for the whole "Turn off your wifi" thing that the iPhone also experienced all I have to say is, I use wifi in my house. What stops that from interfering? Makes me not want to pick up a Wii or iPhone but I digress. The game is fun but the trailer looked way different then the gameplay. More could have been done here.

Mario Sports : I think I will pass. Wii sports already exists so many people already own this game. Nintendo seems to really be milking Mario lately.

GoldenEye : WHY REPLACE BOND? Also for a remake it didn't have that good of a graphical jump. Has potential but that would be it is like they are remaking Super Mario 64 where you play as Luigi.

Wii Party : pass

Kirby : Really slow, even Super Mario Bros. (NES) seemed faster then this. It is interesting I will give it that. Have to wait for some actual hands on experience.

Epic Mickey : Must buy. Could be the best non-Nintendo game so far.

Donkey Kong : FINALLY! Get this!

3DS : I have a DS already, and because I can turn the 3D off whenever I want to there is no reason to build a game around the 3D. Games will feel gimmicky rather then Avatar like.

Kid Icarus : Hope I don't need the 3DS for this (see above), it looks awesome. One of the few games here I want to play.

Nintendo, You have a 50/50 with me. You didn't really push motion control too much like Sony and Microsoft but you already did that a few years ago. It seems like most of the new games Nintendo is coming out with is Casual and that is a good move. The world is moving more into casual gaming (Halo, Call of Duty, Facebook Games, etc) so they are making a smart move here. Next up, Sony!

OneADay [034] - Goodnight, Moon

Working hard today, 12 hours of coding and Tech Doc and that is just at school. The hope for the finally coding is being destroyed by the Tech Doc! You shall not get the best of me Tech Doc. Began work on the Rendering Engine, so far we have some features that some other games here don't even have! Lets hope this keeps up the drive for tomorrow.

OneADay [032] - Your Love is my Drug

Get him to the Greek is hilarious! Besides that I played Red Dead Redemption with Rockstar. I love the game and the multiplayer so far. Finishing up the Tech Doc and getting to coding very soon. Every day keeps getting better and better. Sorry for the lack of content, so much time is being put into my Final.

OneADay [031] - Wordplay

Took a day off of the one a day blog to get the flow of being a day late back. Sorry for the jump but a lot of amazing things happened and it was just amazing and I couldn't wait to share. Yesterday we turned in our Tech Doc and other then a few minor things we got some good feedback on it. Afterwards it turned into a movie night were we watched "The Room", "The Land of the Lost" and "Get Him to the Greek". All hilarious! Also played "Red Dead Redemption", and learned I only ever kill the people and skin the animals....The 2k bounty on my head speaks for itself.

OneADay [030] - Mortal Kombat

WOW! 1 full month of posts! Feels like just yesterday I was posting my first one. The guys who worked on Red Dead Redemption came back to the school to do a Q&A panel for us. Afterwards we talked to them and got to exchange information. Now I will admit, after the talking and seeing the trailer I went out and got RDR. It is so weird looking at the credits and seeing their names and you get that feeling of "O man I know that guy, I met him!". The best is knowing they were all students at Full Sail at one time and that they are still cool dudes. Few of them even told us to send over our Final Project games. A great day indeed! Now if you will excuse me...I got some Red Dead to play =)

OneADay [029] - Boom Boom Pow

Gonna skip yesterday and talk about today for a minute. Today Full Sail had a ceremony to open up the new Full Sail Live building. I went with my friends Gary, Steve, Oscar and Bryant. After the cut the ribbon we grabbed a section of it (2ft long) as a reminder of the day. Then we managed to get one of the last 30 tickets to get into the ceremony for the Hall of Fame. We ended up being 5 of the 10 students there (out of 500 people). The best part is that previous Full Sail students were there, all of which worked on "Red Dead Redemption" by RockStar Games. We talked to them outside of the building and ended up sitting behind them. Then they came to talk to my class and I will see them tomorrow at a panel they are talking at. Its amazing to see people who have the same drive and goals who are in the industry and went through what I went through.

OneADay [028] - The Remedy

WoW! What a busy day! Worked on Tech Doc for our game. So much work....After that I got a book, "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies". Gonna start reading it soon. Get some reading back into my life. Also played "Dead Space". Stopped at Chapter 4 (at the gun torrent). Tomorrow, because I am a chapter behind, going to play the rest of 4 and 5.

OneADay [027] - No iPhone

Missed a day ;(

I am sorry, Dead Space got in the way. 5 achievements in a row (litteraly with seconds between them) got me a little to pumped and I lost the time. Was it worth it?

OneADay [026] - Killer Tofu

Started playing "Dead Space" again but this time on the Xbox 360. When I am done I will have this game 100% complete (all achievements) on both Xbox and PS3.....not counting the 3 times I have played on the PC as well. I love this game, one of the best horror games ever!

Besides that I got a ton of stuff done for our Tech Doc and started working on code again. God a few things working and created another small bug (....fix one bug and 20 more spawn, am I right?). One day someone will write 100% bug free code.....it will happen!

OneADay [025] - Torn

Started work on our Tech Doc today. Its crazy! Laying down the framework for our project is kinda awesome. Tho we will won't know if it will work for a good bit of time. It is still exciting to see all the work starting to come together. Teacher says we had one of the best Design Docs in the class, and that was good for moral as we worked really hard on the doc and twice as hard on the Tech Doc. This is going to be exciting!

OneADay [024] - Epic

Online classes.....relaxation day! I kid. Worked on some code and went swimming. Very.......very.......slow day. I wish it was more exciting so I could write more.

Tuesday, June 1, 2010

OneADay [023] - Isengard

Watched all 3 "Lord of the Rings" movies, extended editions, in a row....best 12 hours ever! Worked on a debugger for our game as well. Lets us use the console to print useful information and can track errors (Based on file, function, line, time and date they were called). Pretty powerful stuff.

OneADay [020] - Doom

Piracy and My Thoughts:

A lot of people complain about piracy, and they have a right to do so. Think about it, if you grew a plant and were trying to sell it at a market and someone stole it you would be pissed off. Then again who will buy a eggplant over an apple? It also doesn't help with things like the iPhone where the market is over saturated with games. If the game is worth it (Fun, Updates a lot, Cheap, etc) then I will buy it (Plants vs Zombies, Pocket God, Doodle Jump, etc). But I don't want to spend $6 to $10 on a game I might play once or is a dumbed down port of a game I already own. Any game is going to be pirated and that is something companies need to know. Most people who pirate we not going to buy the game and some that do end up buying the game because they love it. Now a days with games costing $60 you want to be sure you are getting the most for your cash, thats why Halo and Call of Duty sell millions day. You already know what you are going to get. Anyway my 2 cents...

OneADay [019] - Numa Numa

I finished Batman and got all the Riddler stuff. Such a good game, I suggest you pick it up. Done with classes for this month as well. A good day, no?

OneADay [018] - Larger Than Life

DONE WITH PUBLIC SPEAKING!!!! I learned a lot in that class and it was a great experience. I wish it was sooner in the course. When I first saw it I wasn't too happy and I didn't look forward to it at all but my mind was changed quickly. You would be surprised at how much can change in a month. Outside of that I took some relaxation time. Tomorrow I am starting to really get into the meat of my code. Trying to get as much into the engine as I can.

OneADay [017] - Snow

First off, HUGE thanks to Luis! He is the man. He took time out of his project to help me out with some rendering stuff and I cannot thank him enough. Made it to the Joker fight in Batman and I stopped. Getting my shit done first and that fight will be my reward. Also, I have been organizing everything for our team and trying to make it as easy as possible for everyone to work. And I hope to bring that into my engine. My job is to let the artist do what they want and not have to worry about anything. With this we can make a game that looks amazing. Lets just see how that pans out =3

OneADay [016] - The Entertainer

Still on the Batman craze. OMG IT IS SO GOOD!!!! When I say you should play it I really mean it. Kinda hate Uncharted 2 for getting game of the year...but both games are amazing. I am almost done but I am stopping tomorrow for a bit of r and r and some coding. Other then that I am still swimming every day and our group for Final Project is getting together well. Expect some really cool things to follow.

OneADay [012] - Tik Tok

Bet you didn't think I would post today! Muhahahaha. Got a little held up with work. We have to add some more detail to our design document. Not that big of an issue but still not fun. Also talked about tech and all the different things we want to do. I am working on doing the rendering for our game and trying to make it as cool as I can. Went swimming with everyone and had a ton of fun, you should all go swimming if you can.

Anyway, fighting till I see the sunlight. Peace!

OneADay [010] - Brains

Worked on the Coding Style for our final project some more. Finally finished it (W00T!). Sent it off to the IP's so they can look over it. One less thing I need to worry about. We got videos of our presentations and are going to put them up on Facebook soon. I need to close my legs some more when I talk. Afterwards I went swimming with Mike and Steve. Did some laps and had some nice pasta for dinner. Life is good.

OneADay [009] - Eye of the Tiger

Went swimming today. 6th day in a row. Did some laps and decided I want to get into a little better shape. So gonna start doing push-ups and sit-ups (defying gravity and breaking laws.... rebel). Do a few a day over the next week and then increase the number. You know the whole work out deal. As for today it went pretty slow. Had public speaking and we did an improve thing where we were asked a question and and to answer without any prep. I had a ton of fun with it and asked to go again. After that we had a meeting with our group for final project. I added some concepts onto our Facebook page and got home to take a tiny nap, then made some dinner. A good day =3

OneADay [008] - John Freeman

If you don't find the song funny you should check out these videos here:
 - Half Life: Full Life Consequences
 - Half Life: Full Life Consequences 2: What has Tobe Done
 - Half Life: Full Life Consequences: Free Man

Today was pretty slow. Slept in (best thing ever), read a book for Public Speaking, read a little more of the GPP book as well as some of the DirectX book. I cleaned my room and some of the house with my roommate Steve and then we went to the pool for some relaxation. After that I began work on a coding style layout for our groups final project and coded a bit on the side....nice and relaxing =3

Also as many of you have seen I am past the first week mark of my one a day! Getting into the habit of posting now. I also have a FourSquare account (well had it for a while but just picked it back up) so you can follow me on there if you'd like.

OneADay [007] - I Gotta Feeling

Yesterday was one of the best days of recent months. I feel great and I had a lot of fun! We got out of our meeting early, around 1pm. With all the work pretty much done for the week and having off Sunday we did what we do best, PARTY! A ton of people showed up, everyone bringing a food item and some cash for more food and drinks. We had so amazing Louisiana cooking thanks to Will and JR, that roast was amazing! After that Steve and I played some Beer Pong (minus the beer) and went 7 games straight before being beaten by the hosts Will and JR. There was some Halo Reach, some Left 4 Dead 2 and some Rock Band along with some tunes from JR's computer.

Also: The new Pokemon game is gonna be the shit! They move in battle now! Never have I been so pumped for a Pokemon game (well....besides HeartGold and SoulSilver). If you are wondering, I am getting Black.

OneADay [006] - Best of You

Began to finalize the power-ups and started working on the scoring system for our game. A curling game like this has a huge scoring system. We spent the better part of the day just on the scoring system. It is still not done yet, gotta get it into the game and see if it plays right. If not, we tweak. Everyone else has been working hard on their own stuff as well and our artists are amazing, couldn't get any better! Our group is really getting along and it looks as if the next few months will fly by!

OneADay [005] - Sleepyhead

I hate getting up early! I am not a morning person at all XD. Started work on our design doc today for our game. Should be fun. We have to take everything we can think of and put it to paper. I was put into a tiny team to work on the power ups for our game. Things like multi-ball and the sort. We got a lot of ideas flowing and I really can't wait for the next few days to start getting concept art and start working on tech!

And to end it off my friend, The Holder of the End:

In any city, in any country, go to any mental institution or halfway house in you can get yourself to. When you reach the front desk, ask to visit someone who calls himself "The Holder of the End". Should a look of child-like fear come over the workers face, you will then be taken to a cell in the building. It will be in a deep hidden section of the building. All you will hear is the sound of someone talking to themselves echo the halls. It is in a language that you will not understand, but your very soul will feel unspeakable fear.
Should the talking stop at any time, STOP and QUICKLY say aloud "I'm just passing through, I wish to talk." If you still hear silence, flee. Leave, do not stop for anything, do not go home, don't stay at an inn, just keep moving, sleep where your body drops. You will know in the morning if you've escaped.
If the voice in the hall comes back after you utter those words continue on. Upon reaching the cell all you will see is a windowless room with a person in the corner, speaking an unknown language, and cradling something. The person will only respond to one question. "What happens when they all come together?"
The person will then stare into your eyes and answer your question in horrifying detail. Many go mad in that very cell, some disappear soon after the meeting, a few end their lives. But most do the worst thing, and look upon the object in the person's hands. You will want to as well. Be warned that if you do, your death will be one of cruelty and unrelenting horror.
Your death will be in that room, by that person's hands.
That object is 1 of 2538. They must never come together. Never.

OneADay [004] - Cry Love

Today (and remember I mean yesterday) was awesome! Matt's Wii came back to life! Nothing can stop that thing! After some helpful information in Public Speaking we left to go play Mini Golf to help us get ideas for courses. Had a lot of fun with it too! Afterwards we went out to Chili's. A great day indeed!

We got a lot of good information from Mini Golfing. Mainly the architecture of each course has very little strait lines. There are lots of curves and abstract shapes. At the course we went to there were rocks all around the course. This made the ball bounce randomly and never the way you thought it would. Realistic physics sucks for games...

OneADay [003] - Far, Far Away

My Playground was picked! Now we need to do some research! Time to play some Mario Kart and we got MiniGolf tomorrow......I love making games!

OneADay [002] - That's Why They Call It a Union

I am going to work on these blogs a day late, so todays blog was actually what happened yesterday. This allows me to write each post a day early and post them later, which is easier for me. So with that stated lets get into the meat....yum!!

Today we finalized our powerpoint for our game projects. We had to make two pitches for two separate games that we would present to our teachers. The one they like better (or hated the most) will be picked for us to go into production with. Our two main ideas have us combining two game styles to make something unique. Our one game is an RTS mixed with Scrabble and the other is a Mini Golf - Curling cross bread. Both of which sound great. We practiced our pitches twice and tweaked everything to get ready for the presentation tomorrow.

OneADay [001] - Feels Just Like It Should

Well George I told you I would, so here we go! Welcome to my OneADay blog!! (<- I am more excited then the last sentence!!!). Here I will hopefully do one blog post a day for the next *insert number here* days. Anything from what I did that day to what I am thinking, I will post it here for all to see. I will also try and give out some tunes (see above).

So who am I? My name is Joseph Stuhr and I am a student at Full Sail in their game development program. I just entered the last 5 months of the course, known as Final Project, where students are grouped together to create a game. Our team is Atmosphere Games and we have just concept our 2 games which we are presenting tomorrow. The one that gets picked is the one we work on. Both ideas are strong but I am defiantly biased. As for today we it is practice practice practice. In public speaking we are giving our presentations and hopefully we can find flaws in our speech and movement to make each powerpoint that much better.

Well, small and sweet but I am off to class. Catch ya tomorrow!
Joe
